Pumpkin, Baby!

orange pants black linen jacket

When I was little, my mom’s nickname for me was Pumpkin Baby (apparently, I had rolls like a pumpkin ♥). It must have subconciously imbued me with a love for the shade, because now I can’t get enough of it.

Here I’ve paired the hue with neutral basics (leopard is a neutral, right, Jenna Lyons?) to let the wide-leg pants be the star.

Also, I finally bit the dust and bought a paper planner. I’m still adjusting to carrying something around the size of a small dictionary, but feeling more organized and reading an inspirational quote each day (yes, I’m a dork like that) helps soften the blow.Update: While setting up the links to this post, I found my “Happy Stripe” planner has a matching pen, so I may survive after all.

Black Linen Blazer, vintage Elie Tahari.

Leopard calf-hair belt, vintage Saks Fifth Avenue.

Black and tan wedges, Michael Kors.

Pleats, Please

I’m over the moon for a well-placed pleat. Perhaps it’s the fact that I dabbled in sewing when I was younger and realize just how elusive the perfectly-placed pleat can be, or my ignorant but ardent love of architecture which inspires my fascination with the manner in which sharp lines and curves coexist.

Whatever it is, I knew as soon as I saw this tunic I loved it for the pleats at the shoulders and waist. I bought it at a friend’s consignment sale and changed its shell buttons out for glass to give it more sophistication.

Paired with a black leather kimono belt (I may pair it with a velvet one in the future if I want to get Fancy) and wide-leg linen pants, it makes a great transition piece in Florida (I’ll layer a cropped moto jacket over it as the temperatures cool).

A Hipper Zipper

Black pants a are a wardrobe staple, and can be an easy outfit starter on those days when you’ll be in a cold office all day, but to keep them from getting boring, choose them in an interesting silhouette or fabric.

Navy and Black

This wide-leg pair is polished, and closed-toed shoes in the same color as the pants creates a long, lean look.

A little something extra

The navy and black tweed peplum top has a bit of shimmer woven in and the texture adds depth for increased sophistication. You could also top this with a statement necklace-the bigger, the better.

Unexpected Pop of Color

Surprise! The pink zipper adds a little wink of fun.

Black pearl earrings continue the polish theme, but a men’s stainless steel link bracelet and leather handcuff bracelets are more devious.
